Monofilament Sewing Thread

Texas Specialties is pleased to offer Shakespeare® monofilament sewing thread.  Monofilament thread is exactly what its name says-a thread that has a single fishing line-like filament.  In recent years nylon monofilament thread has become much more flexible – meaning that it will form a better loop in the sewing machine more closely resembling conventional thread.

Monofilament nylon thread is made from one continuous filament of nylon or polyester and available in clear and smoke.  Clear and smoke monofilament thread has a semi-translucent quality that helps it blend in with the fabric that you are sewing.  This makes monofilament thread an excellent choice when you want stitches and seams to be as “invisible” as possible or cannot find a thread color that matches your fabric.

A variety of sizes are available in monofilaments which are suitable for many sewing applications.  Almost any operation using monofilament should be done with the smallest diameter thread that will produce the desired seam strength.  The nylon monofilament sewing thread is available in both SN 38 (high tenacity) and SN 40 (soft) versions.  We offer sizes .004 through .010 in both clear and smoke.

Monofilament thread is often used for machine quilting, apparel, curtains, drapes, bedspreads, comforters, sleeping bags, blankets, stuffed toys, pillows, handbags, and furniture as it is strong with little stretch.  It can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications as it is rot-proof and abrasion resistant.
